The City of Albion during their October City Council meeting announced that they received a grant for around $274,000 to resurface Elm Street. The resurfacing work would take place in the blook between 4th and 5th Street. The street, on the north side of the courthouse, is currently brick and in rough condition. The award also included curb and gutter work. Officials will now move onto the design of the project.

In other news from the Albion City Council meeting, the Solar on Earth program was approved by council members. Officials say that the program will help save the city around 20% on their monthly Ameren bill. The savings would be part of the Solar Electric Rebate Program offered by the utility.

A member of the community raised some concerns about outages from Sparklight in their area. Meanwhile, a never used alley near Cedar Hill Drive was requested to be vacated by the property owner, but no action was taken.

In other items, 400 yards of sidewalk has been recently poured and is now ready for use at the Albion City Park. Gena Stanhope, Kathy Smith, and Jane Harper were appointed to the Albion Library Board by Mayor Wesley Harris. Finally, garbage rates will be going up for the city, beginning in November. The new rate, voted on by the council is $20 per month.
