A routine traffic stop in Vincennes early Thursday morning led to the arrest of four people and the discovery of a large quantity of drugs and paraphernalia.

According to the Indiana State Police, the incident occurred around 12:43 a.m. when Trooper T. Hurley stopped a 2013 Dodge Dart for driving down the middle of 15th Street near Main Street. The driver was identified as 30-year-old Mariah D. Lewis of Vincennes, who was found to have an active warrant for child neglect out of Knox County.

Three passengers were also in the vehicle — 29-year-old Bryce Cummings, 33-year-old Kandace Hawkins, and 26-year-old Sarah Liddle, all of Vincennes.

Due to suspicious circumstances, all four occupants were removed from the vehicle. A Knox County Sheriff’s Deputy and his K-9 were called to assist, and the dog alerted officers to the presence of narcotics. A subsequent search uncovered more than 20 grams of suspected heroin, a small amount of methamphetamine, over 240 syringes, more than 50 glass smoking pipes, and approximately $1,200 in cash.

All four individuals were taken into custody and transported to the Knox County Jail. They face multiple charges, including:

Dealing in Heroin over 12 grams (Level 2 Felony) Possession of a Narcotic (Level 4 Felony) Possession of Methamphetamine (Level 6 Felony) Possession of a Syringe (Level 6 Felony) Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Class C Misdemeanor)

The investigation remains ongoing.

Assisting at the scene were Trooper B. Marsee of the Indiana State Police and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
