CLAY Co., IL – Clay County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to 911 hang up call at a residence in Harter Township. A short time later the 911 Dispatch Center received another call relating to same residence stating a male was breaking down the door and yelling.
The responding deputy observed a male subject exit a vehicle and enter the residence when he arrived on scene. The deputy made contact with this subject, who appeared to be intoxicated, from outside the residence and the subject exited the residence. As the deputy attempted to speak with the subject, the subject attempted to reach inside the vehicle, resulting in the deputy restraining him to prevent him from getting in the vehicle. The subject pulled away and began to resist the deputy. The deputy was able to take the subject into custody and secure him in his squad as additional law enforcement arrived on scene. A search of the subject resulted in locating handgun ammo on the subject.
During the investigation it was reported that there was a physical altercation between the subject and other individuals in the residence. It was also reported at one point the subject was armed with a handgun and discharged rounds outside the residence. Deputies recovered a spent shell casing outside the residence.
39-year-old Nicholas Robertson was arrested and charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, domestic battery,possession of a firearm with an invalid FOID registration, resisting a peace officer, and interfering with the reporting of domestic violence. Robertson is being held in the Clay County Jail.
