City of Olney Seeking Firefighters

The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners in Olney has announced that it is now accepting applications to establish an eligibility list for the position of firefighter.

Applicants must be at least 21 years old at the time of hire and must not have reached 35 years of age by the filing date, unless otherwise exempt under Illinois statute—such as current paid-on-call firefighters.

The position offers a starting base salary of $53,820 per year, which increases to $59,800 upon completion of Basic Operations certification. The benefits package includes personal and sick days, health and life insurance, a fire pension, annual wage increases, and overtime opportunities.

Application packets are available at Olney City Hall, located at 300 Whittle Avenue, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The deadline to submit applications is February 13, 2026.
