The Linton City Council met Tuesday evening, covering a full agenda of city business and reports.

During the meeting, Ann Wright-Gainey was appointed to serve on the Linton Library Board, and Ron Layman was approved as a member of the Linton Redevelopment Commission.

The council approved an agreement with Commonwealth Engineering for the city’s 2025 water improvement project and authorized several financial transfers.

A resolution was approved involving INDOT contracts for the city’s annual Community Crossings Grant, as well as another resolution approving the sale of a parcel on L Street for title work purposes. The council also approved updates to the public records request policy, acceptance of PILOT funds—that’s Payment in Lieu of Taxes—and an update to the city’s capital asset policy.

The city’s salary ordinance was also approved, which includes a three percent annual pay raise for city employees. In addition, officials announced that a new contract with the local firefighters’ union has been approved.

In city department reports, the Linton Police Department handled 649 calls for service last month, leading to 311 investigations and 55 traffic stops.
Trick-or-treat hours in Linton will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on October 30th and 31st.

The fire department reported 93 total calls for the month, including 15 fire-related incidents and 78 medical responses. October is Fire Prevention Month, and firefighters have been hosting visits with local children. The department currently has eight firefighters on staff.

Utility officials also reminded residents about the city’s water service line inventory project, required under new state regulations. Letters will be sent to customers with lead, galvanized, or unknown service lines as part of that process.

Prior to the main session, the council held a special meeting to discuss the 2026 city budget, which was approved on first reading.
