Good Samaritan has announced that CommonSpirit Health at Home will acquire and assume operations of Good Samaritan Hospice, ensuring continued access to compassionate, end-of-life care for patients and families across Indiana and Illinois.
The announcement follows Good Samaritan’s earlier decision to close its hospice program at the end of 2025. In response, hospital leadership explored ways to continue hospice services in the region and identified CommonSpirit Health at Home as the organization best positioned to take ownership and maintain uninterrupted care.
CommonSpirit Health at Home is a long-time collaborator with Good Samaritan through Good Samaritan Home Care Services, a joint venture that has provided home health care in Vincennes, Indiana, and Lawrenceville, Illinois, for more than 35 years. The acquisition will bring hospice services under CommonSpirit Health at Home’s umbrella, ensuring a seamless transition and continued coordination of care for patients across both states.
Importantly, all current Good Samaritan Hospice caregivers will remain in place under the new ownership, allowing patients to continue receiving care from the same trusted team.
To maintain community recognition, CommonSpirit Health at Home will continue to license the Good Samaritan name for hospice services. Good Samaritan Hospice will remain dedicated to patient-centered care and will continue to offer volunteer and bereavement programs for families and loved ones.
The transition is expected to take effect February 1, 2026. Until then, Good Samaritan Hospice will continue operations through the hospital, ensuring there is no disruption in care for current patients.
Good Samaritan will continue providing palliative care services, which remain a vital part of the hospital’s Commission on Cancer accreditation. The Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation will also continue directing community donations to support hospice needs throughout the region.
“We are deeply grateful to our hospice team for their compassionate service and commitment to our patients and families,” said Rob McLin, CEO of Good Samaritan. “After announcing the planned closure, our goal was to find a qualified organization that could continue this vital service for our community. CommonSpirit Health at Home’s acquisition of our hospice program ensures that care will continue seamlessly, delivered by the same trusted caregivers who have supported patients and families for years.”
