Darrel Ray Whitt, 88, of Calhoun, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord, on Monday, September 22, 2025, at Riverside Care and Rehabilitation Center in Calhoun, Kentucky. He was born on May 9, 1937, in Fordsville, Kentucky to the late Callahan and Wilma Lee (Jones) Whitt.

Darrel was a 1955 graduate of Livermore High School in Mclean County, Kentucky. Upon graduation he went to work in the oilfields before going on to a career as an assembler for Whirlpool where he retired.

He loved his dogs (collies) named Prince. He loved working outdoors and gardening and performing yard work, raking leaves and using his chainsaw. He was also an avid sports fan listening to Cincinnati Reds baseball broadcasts and watching UK Basketball.

Darrel is survived by his son, Keith Whitt (Deanie); daughter, Pam Browning (Ricky); and grandson, Dr. Josh Whitt (Meagan); granddaughter, Deidra McElwain, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years Wanda Delores (McDonald) Whitt; parents, Callahan and Wilma Lee Whitt; and grandson, Jacob Whitt.

A visitation will take place at Lamb Basham Memorial Chapel on Sunday, September 28, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A funeral service will be held at graveside at 2 PM at the Owensboro Memorial Gardens with Dr. Richard Sams officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Norton Children’s Hospital located at 231 E Chestnut St., Louisville, KY 40202.
