The Grayville City Council held their regular meeting on Monday night. The Treasurer reports the city currently has $1,704,158.81 in the Restricted Account, $1,454,158.71 in the Investment Account, and $193,201.80 in Cash Available for Operations; for a total of $3,351,519.32.
The Police Chief reports that for the month of September officers received 199 calls to service, opened 8 investigations, made 5 arrests, and wrote 23 citations and 5 written warnings. It is also reported that the city’s newest officer, Officer Cole, has began his field training process.
The council approved a change order for Phase 2 water main replacement section B reflecting an increase of $1560.
Approval was given for a request for a revolving loan grant to Penny Pritchett to cover rest of expenses for the mural at the veterans memorial as part of the Grayville Beautification project. Original expenditures for the mural were reported as $3545. Having already received $1760 from donors, the council approved the grant for the remaining cost in the amount of $1785.
The council also approved acquiring property located at 214 W. North St for demolition. Currently there are outstanding taxes on the property. To avoid the property being entered into a tax sale and risking the price increasing; the council approved the funds, to come out of the revolving loan fund, in the amount of $4120.93 for purchase of the property.
The council approved a one and a half percent increase to both public utility and consumer’s gas. The increase is part of a new 5-year Natural Gas Pipeline License Agreement with Mount Carmel Public Utility and Consumers Gas. It is the first increase to services in the city in 5-years. Also approved was a quote for a new chemical pump at the sewer plant in the amount of $1759.34.
The 2025-2026 Tax Levy was tabled until the next regular meeting, as was a vote on purchase of new playground equipment for the park project.
