The newly constructed St. Francisville bridge has officially opened to vehicular traffic, signaling the completion of a significant infrastructure project for the community. Removal of the old bridge structure is expected to begin in the coming days.
The update was presented to members of the St. Francisville City Council during their regular meeting Wednesday evening. Samron Midwest Contracting of Murphysboro, Illinois, which recently completed construction of the new bridge, will return to the site on Monday to conduct final excavation work and initiate the dismantling of the former structure.
In other business, the council approved the acceptance of a single sealed bid, totaling slightly more than $300, for the former city hall and church building located at 810 Main Street. The property had been offered for sale following the city’s decision to relocate its operations back to its previous city hall within the former St. Francisville school building.
The council also opted to table discussion regarding a new garbage collection contract to allow additional time for review and comparison of service rates. The city’s waste collection is currently provided by Republic Services.
Additionally, trick-or-treat hours for Halloween were formally established for Thursday, October 31, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
