The City of Petersburg Water Department has announced that routine hydrant flushing will take place Monday, October 13, through Friday, October 17. The work will be conducted at various locations across the city between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. each day.

Hydrant flushing is a standard maintenance practice designed to improve water quality and ensure the proper functioning of the city’s water distribution system. While the process may appear to waste water, officials noted that it plays an important role in maintaining adequate water pressure and flow for fire protection, ensuring valve and hydrant reliability, and enhancing overall water service to residents.

City officials emphasized that the water will remain safe for consumption throughout the flushing period. However, residents are encouraged to exercise caution, particularly before doing laundry. Customers who notice temporary discoloration in their water are advised to run cold water through their taps until it clears.
