The Shoals Community School Board held their October session last night.
At the beginning of the meeting, the elementary’s robotics team made a presentation before the board to showcase what they are working on. That was followed by a powerpoint that middle school students put together about bullying and the harmful effects it has on students.
The board held a final public hearing in regards to the upcoming budget. During the presentation of the budget to the board, it was announced the school board would be receiving a new bus by the end of the year that was ordered around 18 months ago. Nobody spoke for or against the budget. The board then approved the budget for the upcoming calendar year.
High School attendance has been an issue the last few years at Shoals, but so far this year, Principal Kendra Hovis made a challenge to the students and the students have responded with 95% attendance. Principal Hovis will be rewarding those in attendance today with a shake from BoMac’s.
Under new business, the board approved all personnel decisions, fundraisers, field trips, and stipends. The board approved the replacement track with FEMA funding 75% of that project. The board also approved the HUDL contract. The board approved posting for mowing bids and a custodian position. Several events were approved by the board. The next Shoals School Board Meeting is November 13th.
