Tony and Natalie Burkhart of Vincennes have been named the 2025 recipients of the N. Philip Shelton Humanitarian Award. The honor, presented by the Vincennes Kiwanis Club in cooperation with Good Samaritan Hospital, recognizes individuals who work to improve the well-being of others through service and community involvement.

A public ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 2, at the Good Samaritan Hospital Hedde Education Center, 520 South Seventh Street in Vincennes.

Lifelong Knox County residents, the Burkharts have played a major role in revitalizing downtown Vincennes through their business, Burkhart Insurance. Over the past two decades, they have purchased, remodeled, and maintained numerous downtown properties, helping to preserve and enhance the city’s historic district.

They are also known for organizing the annual Burkhart Insurance Citywide Cleanup, launched in 2005 and now in its 20th year. The event not only beautifies the community but also raises funds for local charities and nonprofits.

The couple has served on several local boards, including the Knox County Chamber of Commerce, Knox County Indiana Economic Development, the Knox County Community Foundation, The BABE Store, and various church committees.

Most recently, the Burkharts have led efforts to restore the Cypress Hills Country Club, transforming it into a thriving community space that supports youth and family recreation.
