Vandalism Strikes Lester Square Park

Officials with the Vincennes City Parks and Recreation Department have announced that the restrooms at Lester Square Park are closed currently due to vandalism.

According to Vincennes Parks Superintendent, JR Field, the latest vandalism involves drawing on the walls of the women’s restroom, the breaker box panel in the men’s restroom has been broken, drawing on the side of the building with no cameras, and the guttering has been ripped around.

Field tells Illiana News that the restrooms will be closed for the foreseeable future and the picnic tables will be removed. Field also mentioned that it was not the users of the skate park, but other individuals that are vandalizing the park.

In recent months, the park has also had vandalism reports with the basketball nets cut down and a fire being set in the men’s restroom.

Field also mentions that the suspected vandals have also been leaving their trail every day with littering throughout the park. Officials say parks officials are spending 15-20 minutes a day picking up trash.
